I woke up to my mom making these cute little flower things. She isn’t naturally artistic however, she is very proud of accomplishing this feat. It’s cute. I don’t even mean that sarcastically.

It’s so strange to yet be a teenager and have had enough time on this earth to have “old friends”. These familiar faces are encouraging markers of growth. Individuals become more than a person in a different place but rather one that you’ve been blessed with the opportunity to share memories. Last time I was here, a good 4 or 5 years ago, Mea – along with a few other friends- and my siblings hung out almost every day. We would swim and trash (with legos) my mom’s friends home. Seriously, we played with legos everywhere. all day. everywhere.

In e u r o p a, it is more common for students to be world travelers. The common person understands that the world is larger than what they’ve grown accustomed and realizes the importance of learning through experience. This firsthand, adventure form of exposure forces adaptation to new bacteria and cultures( didja catch that?). Mea has been to many countries and of all, she prefers Barcelona in Espania. So far, my favorite city is Budapest in Hungary. It’s a city that is quiet enough. Intelligence is valued and gelato can be shaped into a rose and remain affordably priced. Pizza is ridiculously good. It is enjoyable to watch soccer with the people( yea, saw the FIFA semi finals at a pizzeria there, once upon two fifa’s ago).

After two strenuous flights and two belligerent nights, we made it to the most glorious sunrise. “Rise and shine and give God the glory, glory” was the song of the hour, stuck in my head, narrating the rest of the morning. Despite the minimal rest, a productive time was had seeing as we were able to google hangouts #thefam and see their beautiful, warm faces. The day progressed with an abnormally large breakfast. More than full, we coma’d onto our beds. When 10 am struck, Monica brought us, each, a large bowl of chocolate and raspberry ice cream. We, then, analyzed our predicament and decided to ask the great Caitlin for advice. Unfortunately, she found it in her best interest to be completely focused on brushing her own teeth before she retired for the evening(her evening). Alas, I saved the day with unspeakable acts( waiting for the remnants to melt and pour it down the drain). What? I said this would be unfiltered. Do not except less. I aim for excellence.

Being Reba’s first time in  e u r o p a, I forced ma mere to join us for the beginning of our season of excursion. She, being smart, came sooner and took a simpler route to her home town, Oradea. This spot is quite the distance from Bucharest, Romania’s capital. Thus, the evening after this photo was taken, we hopped on a minuscule plane and flew to Timisoara. I will skip the portion where I tell you about the ordeal I had with restrooms/ bowel movement. This is not for your discretion but rather, it is long and while I did take the time to write it out, if you are truly that interested, you can ask me and I can send it to you privately.

Without communication to ma mere, we stepped out into the quaint airport and saw the woman of the hour with one of my second cousins who so graciously drove us a good two hours. Finally, we were dumped at my friend, Lorena’s house. Ma mere did not even accompany us in. We had our simple backpacks and were off into the dark, cold of the night. We had no idea what treacherous feast would be awaiting. Cue the DUN DUN DUN.

disclaimer

I may jump around between four different languages. This may seem confusing to you only if you are american. Do you really believe that your degraded vernacular of English descent is that superior that you can’t learn a few simple phrases from others? Is your world so small and so elite that you are unwilling to learn?

CHANGE THAT.

Learning is the window to growth. Unless you’re perfection, complacency shouldn’t be an option( or for some of you, a lifestyle even). I dis-care what position of authority that you’ve appointed yourself but last time I checked, we’re all sinful humans that are on a level playing field with an embarrassing world wide literacy rate with a bajillion of different cultures.

ayoo

It’s that time of year otherwise known as the awkward middle of winter recess. It’s a time to reflect on the past Christmas and New Year’s jubilee. It’s a time to fret over the rest of the year and what might become of it.

I should probably finish registering for classes. Oh, buying textbooks might be a good idea too.

I’m spending the semester in Florence. It kind of just happened(black swan style).

Naturally, I continue to fret because my flesh is strong and my faith is weak. God will take care of me and I can’t wait to see Him prove Himself but look at me- I’m a mess!

#justpray

Matthew 21:22 – And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Back to the reflection deal…

I have been blessed with the most amazing family. This year was quiet in our neck of the woods. At a time when it is a social obligation to spend Christmas with extended relatives or pompous friends, Daddy called in sick. Truly, to four invitations, we respectfully declined due to my sisters ongoing sickness(it’s been a month: take your vitamin C, go outside, get vitamin D, and breathe in that fresh air). Ma mere cooked simpler foods. They tasted amazing and were minimal in salt, as preferred. It was a peaceful time.

I’m very thankful. Everything is so intricately designed. The complexity of it all makes the overall picture that much more intriguing and beautiful.

My current struggles:

  • won’t be able to see my sibsters for a while(they’re the best)
  • can’t decide which countries my weekends will be spent
  • shan’t have a bed large enough to congregate #famsquad
  • #famsquad isn’t coming

Yes, I’m aware that none of these things will prevent me from having the greatest adventure of my life. Now, I realize the value of comfort. Perhaps I will cover this topic -in depth- for a future digression. For now, ta-ta and noapte buna.
